Caring for, sharpening and personalising your knives: Our artisan services
Maison Stamm offers a full range of services to help you maintain, restore and personalise your knives. As specialists in kitchen knives, table knives and folding knives, we support you in keeping every piece in optimal condition. Regular sharpening, cleaning and proper care of wooden handles help preserve performance, ensure safe use and extend the lifespan of your knife.
Choosing to maintain a quality knife is also an eco-responsible decision: it prevents unnecessary waste and highlights the value of noble materials sourced from Alsace’s architectural heritage.
Personalisation: Give your knife a unique identity
Personalisation is an integral part of the Maison Stamm experience. Each knife can be engraved with a name, a date, a logo or a personal message, turning a functional tool into a meaningful piece.
All engravings are carried out directly in our Alsace workshop, using a precise method that respects the material and ensures long-lasting inscriptions.
Personalising a knife means offering an object with real significance, a corporate gift, a family keepsake or a professional tool marked with your identity. Our team helps you choose the most suitable engraving for the material, the intended use and the selected knife model.
Blade sharpening
To ensure a clean, effortless and precise cut, it is essential to maintain your knife’s edge regularly.
Whether you use a chef’s knife, a paring knife, a folding knife or a table knife, proper sharpening reduces strain, improves safety and prolongs the life of your tool.
Wooden handle care
Proper care of a wooden handle is essential for ensuring its durability, stability and natural appearance.
The wood used by Maison Stamm comes from century-old beams found in traditional Alsatian houses and requires specific attention to preserve its warmth and prevent drying.
We offer a nourishing treatment tailored to the type of knife:
- Folding knives are treated with linseed oil.
- The other knives in the collection are treated with a moisture-resistant, stain-resistant varnish (eco-labelled and produced in Alsace), allowing for safe contact with water.
How does handle care work?
Gentle cleaning:
The handle is cleaned with a dry or slightly damp cloth to remove residue without saturating the wood.
Inspection of the wood:
We check for cracks, chips or dry areas to adjust the care process based on the wood species and its ageing.
Application of the nourishing treatment:
A suitable oil or varnish (compatible with historic woods) is applied to nourish the fibres in depth and restore natural protection.
Absorption time and polishing:
Once absorbed, the handle is lightly polished to smooth the surface, revive its sheen and remove excess product.
Final check and care advice:
A final visual and manual inspection is performed, followed by simple recommendations to maintain the wood over time.
